Thank You!
Here are some of the people who welcomed Arta and me into their homes and helped me in many other ways:
In Calgary, I stayed with Barb Kinney and Brian Pincott . I was enormously impressed with their energy and the great work they are doing for the Sierra Club there. It was fun to have Barb visit me here on Salt Spring, and thanks to her, I'm now well supplied with "pesticide free" yard signs!
In Edmonton, Sonya Mihelcic of the Sierra Club Prairie Chapter set up numerous media interviews and went with me to deliver a copy of Bob Hunter's book to Premier Ralph Klein's office. I got to see their new headquarters and meet with some enthusiastic volunteers.
The Sierra Club's own media genius Andrew Dumbrille with Arta in Ottawa
In Saskatoon, Donna Ell and her two sweet daughters Vanessa and Natasha put me up, and Sandy Ervin got me a great interview with the Star Phoenix.
On to Thunder Bay, where I got to stay with Bob Payne and Susan Cole at their home on Lake Superior. Arta was in heaven; she thought she was playing on a ocean beach. I'm still enjoying the big packages of wild rice Susan slipped into my trunk.
In Wa Wa, I was sheltered from the storm, and it was quite a storm, by David Wells of Naturally Superior Adventures. There were kayakers coming in the next morning to go surfing! I want to try kayaking there someday myself. It was beautiful.
More Thanks . . .

Finally, on Sunday, Sept.22, I pulled into a suburb on the east side of Ottawa and was welcomed at the home of  Heather Sinnott, a friend of David Wells. What a great gift it was to stay with her. Arta and I were both comforted and restored by her kindness and serenity. Arta stayed with her the whole two days I was in Ottawa, and when it was time to go, I'm not sure she really wanted to.    But I felt honour-bound to keep my commitment to meet with the publishers of
2020 McClelland and Stewart. And I'm so glad I did, for getting to know the people who work at this proud publishing house was one of the high points of my trip, if not my life. I will never forget the little "ceremony" they held to thank me for what I had done. Check out their great website at www.mcclelland.com/.
